ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced, driven, and highly organized Shop Manager to lead all day-to-day operations of our heavy truck and heavy equipment repair facility. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee a skilled team of diesel and heavy equipment technicians, manage shop workflow and scheduling, and serve as the primary point of accountability for quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and is ready to bring strong leadership, technical credibility, and operational discipline to a team that takes pride in doing the job right the first time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee day-to-day shop operations including scheduling, workflow management, and overall productivity to ensure efficient and timely service delivery.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of diesel and heavy equipment technicians, fostering a culture of accountability, skill development, and teamwork.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed accurately, safely, and on time — upholding the shop's standards for quality workmanship.
  • Manage parts ordering, inventory control, and vendor relationships to minimize downtime and control costs.
  • Monitor and report on shop performance metrics including technician efficiency, productivity, and overall profitability.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable safety regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies at all times.
  • Communicate proactively with customers regarding repair status, estimates, and timelines, delivering a professional and trustworthy service experience.
  • Review and approve repair orders, invoices, and related documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop shop personnel in alignment with organizational needs and growth objectives.
  • Coordinate with senior management on budgets, operational forecasting, and capital equipment needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment that reflects pride of ownership and commitment to professionalism.
  • Resolve technician and customer issues promptly and professionally, escalating when appropriate to ensure lasting solutions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy truck and/or heavy equipment repair.
  • Minimum 2-3 years in a supervisory or management role within a repair shop or similar industrial environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions , and related heavy equipment systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of technicians in a fast-paced, high-volume shop environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, wiring schematics, and repair orders.
  • Strong communication skills — both verbal and written — with the ability to effectively interface with shop staff and customers alike.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience developing or overseeing fleet maintenance programs.
  • Familiarity with shop management software, work order systems, or ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience managing parts inventory and negotiating with parts vendors and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements as they relate to commercial vehicles and equipment.

This position is based in an indoor/outdoor commercial repair shop setting where conditions vary with the seasons and nature of work being performed. The role is physically active — candidates should be comfortable with prolonged standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of tools, parts, or equipment as needed. The work environment may include exposure to noise, exhaust fumes, grease, and fluctuating temperatures consistent with an active heavy equipment facility. This is a full-time position operating Monday through Friday , with occasional overtime required during peak periods or to meet critical deadlines.
