Operations / Manufacturing Position Summary The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and profitability of a custom retail store fixtures manufacturing operation. This role oversees daily operations across sales, project management, engineering, manufacturing, finishing, installation coordination, and administrative functions. The General Manager ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards while maintaining operational efficiency, workforce productivity, and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership Direct and oversee all day-to-day operations of the custom fixtures shop including woodworking, metal fabrication, finishing, assembly, and shipping. Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, throughput, and profitability. Monitor production schedules to ensure on-time project completion. Establish and maintain standard operating procedures and workflow processes. Ensure effective communication between sales, design, engineering, project management, and production teams. Financial Management Manage budgets, cost control, and operational expenses. Monitor job costing, margins, and financial performance. Analyze production costs and identify opportunities for improvement. Oversee purchasing and vendor relationships to maintain cost-effective material sourcing. Provide financial and operational reports to ownership or executive leadership. Sales & Customer Relations Support the sales team in estimating, pricing, and proposal development. Maintain strong relationships with key clients and retail brands. Participate in strategic sales planning and growth initiatives. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction throughout project lifecycle. Production & Project Management Oversee project timelines from concept through fabrication and installation. Ensure projects meet design specifications and quality standards. Coordinate resources, labor, and equipment to meet production demands. Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop department managers and supervisors. Build and maintain a high-performance team culture. Manage hiring, training, performance evaluations, and employee development. Promote workplace safety and compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. Quality & Continuous Improvement Maintain high quality standards across all manufacturing processes. Implement Lean manufacturing or process improvement initiatives where applicable. Monitor and improve shop productivity, scrap rates, and rework levels. Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards. Maintain a safe and organized shop environment. Oversee safety training programs and incident prevention initiatives. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing Management, Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience in manufacturing leadership may substitute. Experience 7-10+ years of experience in manufacturing or custom fabrication. 5+ years in a leadership or operations management role. Experience in custom retail fixtures, millwork, cabinetry, metal fabrication, or display manufacturing strongly preferred . Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and organizational skills. Experience managing multi-department manufacturing operations. Strong financial and business acumen. Knowledge of production planning, job costing, and scheduling. Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and team development skills. Experience with ERP or manufacturing management software preferred. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) On-time project delivery Gross margin performance Shop productivity and efficiency Customer satisfaction Employee retention and safety performance Budget and cost management Work Environment Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment. Regular interaction with production teams, suppliers, and customers. May require occasional travel to client sites, vendors, or installations.
Compensation Salary:
$120,000 - $150,000
Bonus/Incentive:
Based on company and individual performance
