Full Time Position Summary:
The Fabrication Shop Manager is responsible for maintaining the various fabrication shops and related equipment in the classlabs used by undergraduate engineering students. The position provides a working knowledge of fabrication equipment used in manual and CNC subtractive manufacturing processes: turning, drilling, milling, etc. The role requires instilling a safety mindset in students that encourages equipment use in a safe, and well thought out manner. Student workers reporting to the Fabrication Shop Manager must be champions of shop organization and safety. The Fabrication Shop Manager maintains ownership of the fabrication equipment maintenance schedule and log. The position reports to the School of Engineering Laboratory Manager and requires adherence to the highest ethical professional and safety protocols, as well as support of the School and University missions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure and promote safety as a top priority Supervise undergraduate engineering shops Assists students with design challenges, and fabrication of prototypes Ensure engineering shops have adequate capabilities to meet the needs of various design projects Assists with budget projections and recommendations Provide a general understanding of the product development workflow to students Assist with training and supervision of undergraduate student workers Conduct student use and safety training Facilitate set-up and take-down of materials for laboratory classes, as needed Manufacture test samples for curriculum labs as needed Be a persistent role-model for equipment and process safety Check and assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment items and supplies Resolve laboratory-related problems/issues Maintain fabrication equipment in engineering shops Oversee and maintain housekeeping/5S standards for assigned labs Monitor inventory and ordering of fabrication shop laboratory supplies when necessary Help maintain maintenance records for major repairs and PM's Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to FERPA and other state and federal mandates. Other job related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Education/Experience:
Completion of an AAS in engineering technology or similar field desired Demonstrated experience with fabrication tools including manual and CNC mills, lathes, router, water jet and other hand and power tools (ShopBot, Flow, Tormach) Experience with 3D modeling CAD software such as SolidWorks, VCarve, FlowCut, FlowPath Experience with CAM and CNC machining, and using software to generate G-code. Experience and competency in various manufacturing processes required to produce quality parts and assemblies Has demonstrated success in organizing and/or managing a production grade machine shop Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired

Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people Exercise independent judgment in complex, new and/or stressful situations Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines Adaptability, flexibility, and a willingness to work in a changing environment This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity, and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
