We are seeking to fill a full-time position for an Assistant Lab Manager. This position plays a critical role in supporting the leadership and daily operations of our Materials Testing Laboratory. The Assistant Lab Manager will work closely with the Lab Manager and Professional Engineer to ensure efficient project execution, regulatory compliance, and high-quality laboratory and field testing services. This position is based in Hobbs, NM. Square Root Services offers a competitive pay and benefits package. Overview
  • Supports laboratory operations and materials testing personnel.
  • Ensures projects are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with standards.
  • Acts as a bridge between field operations, laboratory testing, and project management. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily lab operations including scheduling and technician coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with
ASTM, AASHTO, ACI
standards and regulations.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Review lab and field reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with client communication and project updates.
  • Support billing, timesheets, and invoicing processes.
  • Maintain laboratory certifications and
AASHTO R18
compliance.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Assist with supervising and training technicians.
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies.
  • Perform lab and field work as needed.
  • Support proposals and business development efforts. Preferred Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, or related field plus one year construction materials experience or 5 years of experience in Construction Materials Testing in lieu of degree.
  • Experience supporting lab operations or leadership roles preferred.
  • TTCP and ACI certifications preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI standards.
  • Familiarity with
AASHTO R18.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read plans and technical documents.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
