Job Description

Position Overview This individual will play a critical leadership role in daily operations and team supervision, and should bring a strong foundation in retail management, preferably within a hardware store, building materials, or lumber yard environment. We're looking for someone with proven experience leading teams, driving results and ensuring an excellent customer experience. The ideal candidate will be eager to take on increasing levels of responsibility and serve as a key operational leader within the store. Key Responsibilities Support the Store Manager with all aspects of operations, including opening/closing procedures, staff supervision, scheduling and task delegation Lead by example in delivering outstanding customer service and ensuring team adherence to service standards Oversee and participate in daily merchandising and inventory management to maintain optimal product availability and presentation Supervise and actively participate in inventory management, including receiving shipments, conducting cycle counts, monitoring stock levels, and implementing shrink control measures Help execute sales initiatives and contribute to meeting or exceeding store performance goals Actively participate in training and mentoring staff, supporting their development and addressing performance concerns as needed Assist in conducting team meetings, communicating daily objectives and fostering a collaborative team culture Partner with the Store Manager on staff evaluations, employee relations matters and procedural compliance Ensure the facility is maintained to company standards, including cleanliness, safety and functionality of store systems and vehicles Monitor and help enforce compliance with safety policies, procedures and operational protocols Handle special orders, investigate customer issues (returns, credits) and maintain regular outbound communication to grow customer relationships Assist with the implementation of operational improvements, store resets, vendor program execution and corporate initiatives Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support store operations and business needs What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent (required); additional education or certifications in management or retail operations are a plus Minimum 3-5 years of retail experience with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or assistant management role Strong working knowledge of hardware, tools, lumber, or building materials Proficient in POS systems and basic business software (e.g., Microsoft Office) Proven ability to motivate, guide, and develop a team Exceptional customer service and problem-solving skills Comfortable working in a physical, hands-on environment (lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted; more with help) Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Results-oriented with the ability to serve stores with humility and be a steward of Nation's Best's values Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while remaining adaptable and flexible Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to consistently provide superior customer service skills What's It Like to Work for Nation's Best?
