Summary of Position:
Manages the overall operation of the Paint Department. Develops and maintains master methods for all products processed through the paint department to ensure all customer, regulatory, safety, and NADCAP aerospace painting requirements are properly addressed. Ensure effective training is provided for all department personnel and maintains a safe, compliant working environment. Works to build, develop, and manage associates while owning the quality and compliance of all paint operations. Job Duties:
Develop and implement department practices to ensure all stated NADCAP, customer, quality, and safety requirements are achieved. Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the Paint Department, including production requirements, staffing coverage, and workflow. Ownership of the quality and compliance of all products processed through the Paint Department. Serve as the owner of the NADCAP paint and dry film coating processes, including preparation for, participation in, and successful completion of audits. Act as the primary contact during NADCAP audits, including interaction with PRI auditors, response to findings, and corrective action closure. Develop, maintain, and approve all methods used on job travelers for part processing through the Paint Department. Ensure all paint department personnel are properly trained, qualified, and documented in accordance with NADCAP, customer, and internal requirements. Establish and maintain training, including initial qualification, recurring training, and requalification of painters. Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and performance management for Paint Department employees only. Conduct annual employee performance reviews for paint department staff and provide ongoing feedback and development. May participate in phone screens or interviews and provide hiring recommendations; final hiring decisions are made by Human Resources. Ensure all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and chemical handling protocols are followed at all times within the Paint Department. Own safety performance within the Paint Department and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards. Purchase equipment and materials as required to support paint department operations. Review and manage production schedules and implement process improvements to ensure timely processing of parts. Perform contract review of new and repeat customer purchase orders related to paint operations. Provide painting quotes to customers or internal Account Executives/Managers as requested. Review results of chemical analysis performed by third‑party providers and ensure compliance with specifications. Complete all required processes on time and to satisfy customer satisfaction. Position Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. 7-10 years of experience in aerospace or defense wet painting and/or powder coating operations. Direct NADCAP experience required, including audit participation and ongoing accreditation maintenance. Demonstrated experience interfacing with PRI (Performance Review Institute) auditors. 3-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a paint shop or aerospace manufacturing environment. Proven ability to lead, train, and hold employees accountable within a regulated environment. Thorough knowledge of part cleaning and surface preparation processes (vapor degreasing, phosphate systems, etc.). Working knowledge of paint inspection processes and applicable standards. Strong understanding of OSHA and EPA requirements related to paint and chemical processing environments. Team coordination, leadership, and communication skills. Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. Positive attitude and commitment to safety, quality, and compliance. Computer literacy skills. Must be familiar with and practice internal safety standards. Physical Demands:
The physical demands for this position are normal for a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach, and communicate. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, based on customer product requirements. Safety:
