OVERVIEW
The Lathe Department Lead is responsible for directly coordinating the daily shift activities of the assigned functional area, promoting a positive environment that fosters teamwork, open communication, quality, and efficiency. Owner of machining output for the Lathe Department and working lead to optimize efficiency and productivity, and organization of area to support our core metrics and values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create a culture of Safety and accountability on the Team as well as individual work assignments
  • Adhere to all quality and safety standards within the department
  • Enforce safety procedures and guidelines, and housekeeping practices
  • Organize, plan and prioritize shift workload and activities in the functional area
  • Communicate with supervisors and other leads to coordinate operations and activities within or between shifts and other functional areas
  • Identify, recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality and efficiency
  • Provide guidance and expert advice on technical, systems

  • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
  • Identify training needs, and conducts training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures
  • Observe technical performance of the area staff and provides on the spot guidance
  • Run and set up machines as needed
  • Motivate team members to meet deadlines and productivity goals
  • Provide input to the supervisor for employee performance reviews
  • Maintain clean and organized work area with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilization
  • Continually seek to improve work processes and individual performance
  • Work with customers to quote jobs, produce estimates and manage production schedules within the machines in the Lathe Department
  • Manage lathe machine tooling and hardware, ordering tools and parts as needed
  • Overseeing material purchasing for lathe machine jobs/projects
  • Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of experience in Lathe CNC machining
  • 3+ years of leadership experience as a supervisor or lead within a lathe or machining position or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with tight tolerances down to .0001
  • Lathe machining experience working on the hardest of metals, super alloys
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of GD&T with the ability to read, understand and interpret call outs and specifications on technical prints and drawings
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality controls, and other techniques in the functional areas
  • Experience ordering and maintaining machine tooling and fixtures
  • Experience overseeing customer estimates, job quotes, production scheduling within the Lathe department and material purchasing for upcoming jobs
  • High level of technical competence for the area
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Able to use a computer and calculator
  • Able to read and write in English, and do basic arithmetic
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment
  • Able to communicate clearly with a wide variety of people
  • Must be punctual and have good attendance
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem solving skills

This position requires 10+ years of lathe CNC Machining experience as well as at least 3 years of experience as a lead or supervisor within a CNC machining or manufacturing department. Please tell us about your experinece and qualifications to this position. (refer to qualifications on job description) Preference given to candidates who take the time to answer this question. This role is a department lead. For us, this means that this person will be on the floor, handling administrative and reporting tasks requested from the production manager, leading and developing the team, physically supporting the team with Lathe machining, and standing in front of their own machine processing parts and handling standard machining responsibilities.
