Demonstrate the ability to build customer and employee relationships that will enhance growth in a retail setting. Have a working knowledge of building maintenance, repair; along with an ability to address and resolve deficiencies. Must have the ability to plan, implement and direct operations to insure profitability and growth. In addition, this is a new thrift store that the selected candidate will have the privilege and responsibility to co-design, set up, and launch its operation. Being actively involved in these pre-opening stages is a crucial requirement for this position. The right candidate for this position will need to demonstrate an ability to: 1. Supervise, provide direction, train, and coordinate all operational activities of the store employees 2. Direct all departments in the rotation of floor items, sorting process, pricing, marketing, and salvage operations. 3. Oversee procedures for handling SVDP Conference clients with program support assistance vouchers. 4. Foster a positive work environment for employees through daily communication. 5. Maintain open dialogue with the Executive Director concerning all employee and customer issues, as well as the day-to-day operations/needs of the store. 6. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 7. Control profit and cost figures for store operations by maintaining donation production and increasing sales volume. 8. Identify, plan, and develop methods to increase sales and efficiency of store operations while maintaining control of budgets. 9. Enforce company policies and procedures; display a thorough and working knowledge of the operations manual including ensuring building security, safety and sanitation standards are fully met. 10. Initiate all personnel actions such as hiring, training, scheduling, promotions, disciplinary measures, and discharges. 11. Engage with intervening in customer-related issues, while following proper chain of command with any employee or customer issue that requires upper management intervention. 12. Reconcile cash with sales receipts, submit operating records and prepare daily record of transactions for the Director of Finance. 13. Manage daily cash control policies, which includes making daily bank deposits and ensuring that each register drawer has the proper funds for business. 14. Coordinate with the Executive Director and the Facilities & grounds Manager for any needed outside services. 15. Handle administrative functions, which include but are not limited to approving employee timecards, making notations for employee files, preparing, and conducting employee evaluations, creating work schedules for store personnel, preparing reports, reporting injuries to appropriate parties, overseeing repair and maintenance issues. 16. Attend and actively participate at all scheduled store manager meetings. 17. Welcome and collaborate with SVDP member volunteers. 18. Learn and be able to articulate the SVDP mission to employees, store volunteers, donors, and patrons. 19. Perform other duties as assigned The right candidate for this position will need to meet the following requisites: 1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 2. At least three (3) years progressive experience and/or training in a retail store with at least one (1) year in a management position; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages. 4. Demonstrated skills in reconciling cash drawers in out-of-balance situations. 5. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. 6. Knowledge of computer systems. 7. Demonstrated skill in general financial accounting practices in the retail industry. The following abilites are demanded in fulfilling the duties of this position: 1. The ability to get along with others and engage them in projects or activities. 2. The ability to shift focus from one task to another while prioritizing tasks as well. 3. The ability to remain calm in difficult situations. 4. The ability to adjust to differing noise levels because of the open setting environment.   • stand when assisting customers or conversing with store personnel.
  • stoop, kneel, or crouch to place items in or get items from low drawers, racks, or shelves.
  • lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, which is generally store merchandise.
  • reach with hands and arms when stocking the store, assisting customers or getting supplies, binders, and files. The employee is occasionally required to:
  • sit at a desk or conference table or when driving.
  • assist donors to carry donations from their vehicles.
