Job Title - Fleet Shop Manager Position Overview The Fleet Shop Manager is a working leadership role responsible for managing all aspects of an internal, private fleet maintenance. This position oversees a 12-bay, full-door shop primarily working on company-owned vehicles while also performing outside mechanical work as needed. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, people leadership, and operational discipline to ensure fleet reliability, regulatory compliance, cost control, and minimal downtime. The Shop Manager works closely with ownership and operations leadership to support fleet strategy and long-term asset planning. Fleet & Facility Overview Fleet (Approx. 35 Units - Internal Fleet Only): Ford F-250 and F-550 service trucks with boom cranes Freightliner SG2 propane bobtails Ford F-750 propane bobtails Peterbilt tractor-trailers Other misc. vehicles and equipment

12 full-door service bays Dedicated office Breakroom Locker room with shower Schedule Full-time position Shop operates Monday through Saturday Every other Saturday rotation required Flexibility required for operational or fleet-critical needs Key Responsibilities Shop Operations & Leadership Manage daily operations of an internal fleet maintenance shop, including workflow, bay utilization, and labor allocation Supervise and lead a team of 3-5 mechanics, ensuring productivity, quality workmanship, and safety compliance Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and adherence to company and regulatory safety standards Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of shop equipment and facilities Hands-On Mechanical Duties Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on company-owned vehicles as required Serve as technical lead for complex or critical repairs Inspect completed work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance standards are met Support mechanics with troubleshooting and time-sensitive repairs Preventive Maintenance & Compliance Develop, schedule, and enforce preventive maintenance (PM) programs across the fleet Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and applicable regulatory requirements Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend corrective or preventive actions Parts, Inventory & Vendor Management Order parts, materials, and supplies in a timely and cost-effective manner Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support uptime while controlling costs Coordinate with vendors and suppliers on pricing, availability, and delivery Track parts usage and repair expenses Communication & Reporting Maintain consistent communication with ownership and leadership regarding: Fleet condition and readiness Major repairs, downtime, and unplanned expenses Maintenance trends and risk areas Provide input on repair-versus-replacement decisions Assist with identifying and evaluating vehicles for purchase or replacement Personnel Management Lead by example with professionalism, accountability, and work ethic Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training shop personnel Coach and develop mechanics to improve technical skill and performance Address performance, attendance, and conduct issues in alignment with company policy Required Qualifications Extensive experience as a fleet, medium-duty, or heavy-duty mechanic Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and chassis components Experience supervising or leading mechanics in a shop environment Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operation Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required) Tools & Equipment Must provide own professional hand tools appropriate for fleet maintenance Company provides shop equipment and specialty tools Preferred Qualifications Prior experience managing an internal or private fleet maintenance operation DOT inspection certification Experience with propane bobtails or specialized vocational equipment Familiarity with fleet maintenance or CMMS software Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy tools and components Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work on vehicles for extended periods Work performed in a mechanical shop environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, grease, and varying temperatures Compensation & Benefits Steady, year-round work maintaining an internal fleet 40-45 hour workweeks Paid time off and holidays Opportunity to continue developing skills alongside senior mechanics Stable shop environment with consistent workload
