Full Job Description Job Purpose:
To oversee and manage all aspects of the grocery department, ensuring its profitability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This includes managing inventory, staff, merchandising, and maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and supervise the grocery department staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Oversee inventory control, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating products to minimize waste and maximize sales. Ensure proper merchandising and display of products to attract customers and drive sales, adhering to company standards and planograms. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shopping environment for customers and employees, complying with all health and safety regulations. Monitor and control department expenses, including labor costs, supplies, and waste, to achieve profitability targets. Implement and enforce company policies and procedures within the grocery department. Address customer inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally, ensuring a positive shopping experience. Analyze sales data and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement within the department. Collaborate with other department managers to ensure smooth store operations and a cohesive customer experience. Stay current on industry best practices and new product developments. Maintain accurate records of inventory, sales, and expenses. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to food handling, safety, and sanitation. Conduct regular department meetings to communicate updates, address concerns, and foster teamwork. Develop and implement strategies to improve department performance and achieve sales goals. Manage and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise within the department. Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels to meet customer demand and prevent out-of-stocks. Ensure proper pricing and signage of all products. Participate in store-wide initiatives and promotions as needed.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in grocery retail management. Proven track record of successfully managing a team of 10 or more employees. Experience with inventory management, ordering, and stocking. Experience with merchandising and product display. Experience with budget management and cost control. Experience with customer service and conflict resolution. Experience with implementing and enforcing company policies and procedures. Experience with training and development of employees. Experience with food safety and sanitation regulations. Experience with using point-of-sale (POS) systems.

Knowledge of grocery industry best practices. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
