Job Description

Position Overview Blue Jax is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Machine Shop Manager to lead and scale a high-volume, 24/7 machining operation. This is not a supervisory-only role—this position requires a leader who can personally program, operate, and troubleshoot CNC equipment while managing multiple crews across continuous operations. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in oilfield drillable equipment, understands the urgency of production environments, and can drive performance, accountability, and quality across all shifts. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage a 24/7 multi-crew machine shop operation, ensuring productivity, efficiency, and uptime across all shifts Direct daily operations including scheduling, workflow optimization, and manpower allocation Personally program, set up, and troubleshoot CNC machines (lathes, mills, and related equipment) Establish and enforce production standards, KPIs, and quality control measures Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput and reduce downtime Oversee maintenance strategies to ensure equipment reliability and longevity Ensure strict adherence to safety, compliance, and operational procedures Recruit, train, and develop machinists, leads, and supervisors across multiple crews Collaborate with leadership on capacity planning, capital equipment, and operational strategy Required Qualifications Proven experience managing a high-volume machine shop operating 24/7 Expert-level CNC programming experience (must be hands-on and capable, not theoretical) Strong leadership experience managing multiple crews/shifts simultaneously Deep knowledge of oilfield drillable equipment, including: Drill pipe, HWDP, drill collars Tool joints and downhole components Comprehensive understanding of connection types (API and proprietary) Ability to troubleshoot machining issues in real-time and maintain production flow Strong operational mindset with a focus on efficiency, accountability, and results Preferred Qualifications Experience in oil & gas service or manufacturing environments Familiarity with hardbanding, repair, and refurbishment processes Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience ERP/MRP system experience for production tracking Leadership Expectations This role requires a working manager —someone who leads from the floor, not the office.

Pay:
$130,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
