To assist the Store Manager in managing all aspects of the retail store by promoting and maintaining customer service. In addition, to be responsible for overseeing the operation of the store to maximize sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, human resource management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate sales promotion activities and prepare (or lead associates to prepare) merchandised displays and signage. Recruit, train, develop, and communicate with all staff and assess performance on a daily, monthly, and annual basis. Plan and prepare work schedules to assign associates to specific duties. Monitor and order merchandise from distribution center to replenish merchandise in store. Ensure compliance of associates with established security, sales, and recordkeeping procedures and practices. Address, problem-solve, and resolve customer complaints or inquiries. Open and close the store when needed, including security and related duties. Manage payroll budget and fiscal responsibilities with corporate office. In the absence of the Store Manager, assume all duties of the Store Manager to make appropriate decisions for the daily operations of the store. Other Duties and Responsibilities May be required to operate a forklift on occasion. Forklift certification will be required and obtained on the job. May be required to dispense propane on occasion. Propane certification will be required and obtained on the job. Help in departments when needed. Perform daily cleaning - such as, but not limited to, vacuuming, replacing full trashes with new trash bags, and sweeping the store floor. Other duties assigned as needed. Qualifications 3 years of experience working in a retail environment preferred. Advanced knowledge of Eagle Browser preferred. Experience working in different departments of the store preferred. Advanced knowledge of operating a POS system preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to obtain and possess valid driver's license and insurance. Proven written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt to rapidly changing work environments and to shift priorities accordingly. Familiar with how to operate a computer system and email. Familiar with standard retail concepts and practices. Familiar with reading and understanding industry and financial reports. Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel. Requirements Assistant Store Manager - Sporting Goods & Hardlines Job Requirements Experience & Background 1-3+ years of retail leadership or supervisory experience (sporting goods, hardware, or similar preferred) Proven ability to drive sales, merchandising standards, and team performance Experience managing inventory, shrink, and operational processes Firearms Safety & Product Knowledge Basic to intermediate knowledge of firearms, ammunition, and related accessories Strong understanding of firearms safety practices, storage, and responsible handling Ability to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local firearm laws and company policies Comfortable assisting customers with safe, informed product selection Hardlines / DIY / Tools Knowledge Working knowledge of power tools, hand tools, hardware, and DIY projects Ability to explain product features, use cases, and safety guidelines to customers Understanding of maintenance, applications, and common troubleshooting for tools and equipment Customer Service & Sales Strong customer-first mindset with the ability to build trust and provide expert recommendations Ability to identify customer needs and upsell across sporting goods and hardlines categories Comfortable handling high-value and regulated product sales (e.g., firearms) professionally Leadership & Team Development Ability to coach, train, and develop team members in both customer service and product knowledge Leads by example in safety, compliance, and operational standards Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills Operations & Compliance Ensure compliance with all company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements Assist with inventory control, stock accuracy, and merchandising execution Maintain secure storage and handling processes for firearms and controlled products Physical & Work Requirements Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 50 lbs Ability to stand, walk, and work on the sales floor for extended periods Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
