POSITION DESCRIPTION
McKay Garden Center is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Retail Manager to join our growing team. This position supports daily operations in plant sales, customer service, and yard logistics. The ideal candidate combines strong plant knowledge with practical equipment experience and a hands-on approach to customer service. This role is seasonal (March-November) with the potential to transition to a year-round salaried position for the right candidate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Assist with day-to-day garden center operations and staff coordination Provide expert guidance on plant selection, care, and landscape solutions Operate loaders and forklifts to move, stage, and load customer orders, trailers, B&B trees, and hard goods safely Support merchandising, displays, and inventory organization Perform routine plant maintenance, watering, and quality control Apply pesticides and fertilizers as needed (applicator license preferred) Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure a welcoming retail experience
BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE
•Strong horticultural knowledge and retail experience preferred Experience operating loaders, forklifts, or similar equipment required Pesticide applicator certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days Ability to lift 40 lbs. and work outdoors in varied weather conditions Proven reliability, initiative, and leadership skills Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE
Competitive hourly rate (based on experience) Opportunity for promotion to full-time salaried rol Seasonal schedule: approximately March through November, 40+ hrs/week during peak season, including some weekends Employee discounts and company profit-sharing opportunities available Employee Stock Ownership, 401K Plan, plus full benefits in the full-time year-round role
