Job Title:
Industrial Automation Estimator / Technical Sales Engineer Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and motivated Industrial Automation Estimator / Technical Sales Engineer to support our system integration water and wastewater and manufacturing automation business. This role is responsible for reviewing customer requirements, specifications, and drawings; developing accurate hardware bills of material and quotations; preparing technical proposals; supporting CRM and quotation systems; and communicating directly with customers throughout the sales process. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of industrial automation and control systems hardware, along with the ability to translate project requirements into clear, accurate, and competitive proposals. This individual should also be comfortable in a customer-facing role and possess strong communication and sales skills. Key Responsibilities Review bid documents, customer requirements, technical specifications, and project drawings. Interpret control system designs and develop accurate hardware bills of material (BOMs) for quotations and proposals. Prepare pricing, quotations, and technical proposals for industrial automation projects. Support sales activities by communicating with customers to clarify scope, answer questions, and develop solutions. Work with customers, vendors, and internal team members to identify appropriate products and solutions.Develop proposals involving:
SCADA/HMI
systems PLC control systems Motor control systems Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) Industrial networking and communications Control panels and associated hardware Read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, network diagrams, and technical specifications. Use CRM and quotation systems to track opportunities, maintain customer information, and manage proposal activity. Coordinate with engineering, project management, and operations teams to ensure proposals align with execution capabilities. Assist in identifying qualified bid opportunities and evaluating project fit for the company. Build strong customer relationships and support general business development and sales efforts. Required Qualifications Experience in industrial automation, control systems, or electrical systems, preferably in the water and wastewater industry. Strong understanding of automation hardware and control system components. Ability to build hardware BOMs and develop accurate project quotations.Ability to read and understand:
Customer requirements Technical specifications Electrical and control drawings Panel layouts and one-line diagrams Working knowledge of:SCADA/HMI
systems PLC-based control systems Motor controls VFDs Industrial communication networks Good computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and general business software. Basic experience with CRM systems and quotation/proposal tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Customer-facing skills with the ability to discuss technical solutions clearly and professionally. Sales aptitude and the ability to help develop and close opportunities. Preferred Qualifications Experience estimating or quoting industrial control panels, SCADA systems, PLC systems, or automation integration projects. Experience in municipal water and wastewater automation projects. Familiarity with major automation platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Ignition, or similar systems. Experience working for a systems integrator, OEM, panel shop, or automation contractor. Knowledge of industrial Ethernet, fiber, radio, and remote communications systems. Understanding of project scope development, proposal strategy, and vendor pricing.
