Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Sales Tax Consultant to support the Finance and Tax team with sales and use tax compliance, audits, registrations, and process improvement initiatives. This consultant will be responsible for managing multi-state indirect tax obligations, ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations, and supporting ongoing tax technology and process enhancement projects. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Sales and Use Tax compliance in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, a deep understanding of indirect tax regulations, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions. Manage Sales and Use Tax compliance requirements for NJ, PA, DE, and other applicable states. Review and reconcile sales tax accounts to ensure accurate reporting and compliance. Research state and local tax regulations and provide guidance on taxability matters. Assist with sales tax audits, notices, assessments, and inquiries from taxing authorities. Analyze nexus requirements and support state registration filings. Review and maintain exemption certificates and tax exemption documentation. Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, and IT teams to strengthen tax processes and internal controls. Identify opportunities to reduce tax risk and improve compliance procedures. Support the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of tax software solutions. Assist with special projects including system upgrades, acquisitions, tax process improvements, and compliance initiatives. Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documentation. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field. 3+ years of Sales and Use Tax experience in a corporate tax department, consulting firm, or public accounting environment. Strong knowledge of multi-state indirect tax regulations. Experience preparing and filing sales tax returns across multiple jurisdictions. Hands-on experience with tax exemption certificates and indirect tax compliance. Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and CereTax . Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis functions. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain tax concepts to non-tax professionals. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience with tax automation solutions such as Avalara, Vertex, Sovos, or similar platforms.
