Job Description

Job Summary:
Maintain and expand sales of heavy construction products and services, in addition to preparing portions of contract proposal estimates for civil and heavy highway related projects. This salaried, exempt position will work with indirect supervision.
Essential Functions:
  • Maintain and expand customer sales in assigned territory through cold calling, marketing and networking.
  • Improve relationships with existing customers through customer service and direct contacts.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine, develop and negotiate scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Obtain and research all required material and historical data to ensure timely completion of accurate and concise estimates.
  • Complete, in a timely manner, accurate and concise estimates of required labor, equipment and materials need to complete project.
  • Responsible for coordination and administration of project upon completion of sale or low bid including maintaining files of working documents.
  • Proactively communicate with Project Manager, Job Superintendent, Cost Accountant and internal departments concerning project.
  • Represent Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. to the public, outside agencies and interests, including federal, state and local agencies.
  • Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Knowledge of:
  • Construction materials, grading, aggregate industry and paving industry.
  • Civil engineering and construction principles.
  • Estimating techniques, cost control and material pricing.
  • Common commercial and estimating software.
Ability to:
  • Perform mathematical calculations.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc.
  • Learn and follow GOH company policies and procedures.
  • Use a computer and other related office equipment.
Qualifications:
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate above average organizational, analytical and memory skills to effectively and efficiently handle multiple priorities with short deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license for the state in which you reside with acceptable driving record per company minimum standards for drivers.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prefer 1 to 2 years of college or its equivalent; courses in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration and Public Relations preferred.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 1 year of sales experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in estimating and construction including excavation, paving, underground utility, site development, civil and heavy highway projects preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently required to sit in and operate a vehicle for sustained periods of time.
  • Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computers, copiers, telephones, etc.
  • Ability to work in a field environment with exposure to dust, inclement weather conditions, extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
