We provide specialized engineering, quality assurance, and project delivery services for complex, high-profile projects throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.

Civil and Structural Engineering Site development and civil engineering design Structural engineering and analysis Infrastructure planning and support Engineering solutions for commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities 2. The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Freelance Business Development Specialist to help expand our client base and strengthen our market presence across all four service lines, with a particular focus on: Data Center Developers and Operators Technology Infrastructure Clients General Contractors Mission-Critical Facility Owners Aviation and Transportation Clients Public and Private Sector Project Owners This contract role is ideal for an independent consultant with established relationships and proven business development experience within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. Key ResponsibilitiesTarget Client Development Identify and research prospective clients throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region, including: Data center developers and operators Major technology companies General contractors and design-build firms Aviation and transportation agencies Commercial and industrial developers Public sector agencies and infrastructure owners Business Development & Relationship Management Conduct strategic outreach through email, LinkedIn, phone calls, and networking. Secure meetings with key decision-makers including Project Executives, Directors of Construction, Development Managers, Program Managers, and Owners' Representatives. Build and maintain long-term client relationships. Pipeline Management Track opportunities through the CRM system. Manage prospects from initial contact through proposal submission and contract award. Provide regular reporting on business development activities and pipeline status. Industry Representation Represent Smoky Hill Engineering at industry conferences, networking events, and professional organizations. Develop strategic partnerships with owners, contractors, architects, and engineering firms. Strategic Support Assist with proposal positioning, presentation materials, and client-facing communications. Help communicate Smoky Hill Engineering's expertise in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, QA/QC Inspections, Construction Administration, and Project Management. QualificationsRequired Proven experience in business development, marketing, or client acquisition within the AEC industry. Strong understanding of engineering, construction, and project delivery services. Demonstrated success developing client relationships and generating qualified opportunities. Ability to work independently and manage business development activities with minimal supervision. Preferred Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, aviation projects, or major infrastructure developments. Existing relationships within the Denver Metro, Front Range, or Rocky Mountain construction markets. Familiarity with developers, contractors, owners, and technology infrastructure clients active in the region. Compensation We are open to discussing flexible compensation structures, including: Option 1: Monthly Retainer + Performance Incentives Fixed monthly retainer Performance bonuses tied to qualified meetings, proposal invitations, and contract awards Option 2: Hourly Consulting Arrangement Competitive hourly rate based on experience and industry relationships How to Apply Please submit: A brief summary of your relevant experience, including any work related to engineering consulting, data centers, mission-critical facilities, QA/QC services, aviation, or infrastructure projects.
