Job Description

Do you have an eye for style and a gift for making people feel great about how they look We're an award-winning specialty eye care practice in Katy, TX — and we're looking for someone who gets genuinely excited about helping a patient find the perfect pair of frames. Not "here are three options." Not "what's your budget." We mean the person who sees a patient walk in, immediately reads their face shape and personality, and can't wait to pull the frames that are going to make them light up when they look in the mirror. If that's how you naturally think about eyewear — this role was written for you. The Role Your primary responsibility is the optical experience — guiding patients through frame selection, making confident style recommendations, and closing the sale through genuine connection, not pressure. Think of it as personal styling with a purpose: every patient you help is someone who will wear your recommendation on their face every single day. You'll also be cross-trained across the practice — front desk, pre-testing, and patient flow — so you can support the team when needed and understand the full patient journey. We'll teach you everything on the clinical side. What you bring is the style instinct, the people skills, and the drive to make every optical experience exceptional. This Role is for You If… You think in terms of face shapes — oval, square, heart, round — and you naturally match frames to features You follow fashion trends — you know what's current, what's classic, and when to break the rules You love the moment a patient sees themselves in the right pair — and you work until you find it You're a natural connector — patients trust you quickly and enjoy the experience of shopping with you You take pride in your recommendations — you don't just sell frames, you curate them You're comfortable with goals — you're motivated by results and take ownership of your performance What You'll Do Primary — Optical & Styling Guide patients through frame selection based on face shape, skin tone, lifestyle, and personal style Make confident, enthusiastic recommendations — be the expert they trust Communicate the value of quality lenses and premium options Adjust, repair, and dispense eyewear with care Manage frame board — curate, merchandise, and keep displays fresh Build vendor relationships and stay current on new collections Track eyewear orders and follow up with patients at pickup Hit and exceed optical capture and sales goals Secondary — Cross-Training Greet and check in patients at the front desk Answer phones and schedule appointments Assist with insurance verification and billing Perform pre-testing and diagnostic screenings (fully trained) Support patient flow and assist the doctor as needed Keep the office organized, stocked, and running smoothly Your Background We'd love to see Background in fashion, styling, retail, or boutique sales Experience in a customer-facing role where style mattered A genuine passion for fashion, accessories, or personal style Proven ability to build rapport with customers quickly Comfort discussing price and recommending premium options Strong visual sense — you notice what looks good and why Also great (not required) Prior optical or eye care experience
ABO/NCLE
certification or interest in pursuing it Insurance verification or medical billing experience Conversational Spanish Experience with optical POS or EHR systems No optical experience? No problem. We will fully train the right person on the clinical and technical side of the role. What we cannot train is an eye for style, a love of fashion, and the instinct to make someone feel great. If you have those things, we want to talk. Why Contemporary Eye Care We're not a chain optical or a big-box vision center. We're an award-winning independent specialty practice where you'll have real ownership of the optical experience. Our frame selection is curated, our patients are loyal, and there's no one ahead of you telling you what to recommend. You'll work directly with Dr. Matthew Kauffman, OD, FAAO, FSLS — a specialist in scleral lenses, advanced dry eye, and complex contact lens fitting. In this practice, eyewear isn't an afterthought. It's central to how we take care of patients. The right hire will have real influence over our frame board, our styling approach, and how patients experience the optical side of their visit. If you've been working in fashion or retail and wondering if there's a role where your style instincts actually matter — this is it. Think this sounds like you? Apply through this listing today! •Bonus points if you tell us your favorite frame brand and why.
