Prepress Manager Position Summary The Prepress Manager is a strategic and operational leader responsible for driving performance, efficiency, and quality across all prepress functions. This role requires a strong, hands-on leader who can operate at the same level as other department managers while also actively engaging in the day-to-day execution of prepress operations. The Prepress Manager leads the team with accountability, ensures KPIs are achieved, and reinforces a culture of consistency, urgency, and continuous improvement. This individual must be able to hold their own in a collaborative leadership environment and effectively partner across departments to deliver results. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and hold the prepress team accountable to performance expectations and company values Drive execution of strategic company initiatives within the prepress department Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as throughput, on-time delivery, error rates, and rework Actively supervise day-to-day prepress operations including file intake, preflight, proofing, and imposition Assign, prioritize, and balance workloads to ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met Review files and proofs as needed to ensure accuracy prior to production Provide hands-on support in resolving complex file and workflow issues Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce waste Develop, document, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) Collaborate cross-functionally with production, sales, and customer service to align priorities and resolve issues Manage team performance through coaching, feedback, and development planning Evaluate and implement new technologies, automation, and workflow enhancements Promote a culture of accountability, problem-solving, and operational excellence Maintain compliance with company safety and quality standards Qualifications Associate degree in Graphic Communications, Printing Technology, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of experience in prepress operations within a commercial printing environment Prior lead or supervisory experience Strong knowledge of offset and digital printing processes Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) Experience with prepress workflows, RIP software, and imposition tools Solid understanding of color management fundamentals Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills Technical Skills Preflight and file correction tools (e.g., Enfocus PitStop) RIP and workflow systems (e.g., Kodak Prinergy, EFI Fiery, or similar) Imposition software Basic color calibration tools and processes Microsoft 365 applications Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds Visual acuity to review detailed artwork and proofs Work Environment Fast-paced production environment Interaction with production floor and office settings Why Should You Apply?
