Thrift Store Worker Position Summary Thrift Store Workers support day-to-day store operations by sorting and pricing donations, stocking and organizing merchandise, assisting customers, operating the register, and maintaining a clean, welcoming shopping environment. Receive donations and follow safety and store guidelines for intake. Sort, tag, and price items based on condition, brand, and store pricing standards. Stock shelves and racks; rotate merchandise and maintain appealing displays. Keep sales floor, fitting rooms, and backroom areas organized and clean. Operate point-of-sale (POS) system: ring sales, handle cash/card transactions, issue receipts, and process returns/exchanges per policy. Identify damaged, unsafe, or restricted items and route them appropriately. Support loss prevention by monitoring the floor and following cash-handling procedures. Assist with opening/closing tasks, including straightening, counting registers (if assigned), and securing merchandise. Work as part of a team to meet daily goals and maintain a positive work environment. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred (not required for all locations). Customer service, retail, or cashier experience preferred. Basic math skills and ability to follow cash-handling procedures. Ability to work efficiently, stay organized, and pay attention to detail when sorting/pricing. Strong communication skills and a respectful, team-oriented attitude. Ability to follow safety rules and store policies. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, and lift/move items; up to 25-50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation (varies by store). Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to use hands for tagging, sorting, folding, and cashiering tasks.
