Job Description
Job Summary The Grocery Payment Clerk is responsible for handling all customer payment transactions accurately and efficiently while delivering excellent service at the front end of a busy grocery store. This role ensures smooth checkout operations, proper billing, and a positive customer experience from start to finish. You will assist customers with payments, process transactions through POS systems, and maintain accuracy in cash handling and billing procedures. Key Responsibilities Customer Service Greet customers warmly at checkout Provide friendly and professional assistance during transactions Answer basic questions about pricing, promotions, and payments Handle minor customer concerns politely and efficiently Payment & Cashier Operations Process cash, credit/debit cards, gift cards, and mobile payments Accurately enter and verify customer transactions in POS system Issue receipts, refunds, exchanges, and billing corrections when needed Apply coupons, discounts, and loyalty rewards correctly Maintain accurate cash drawer balancing throughout shifts Checkout Support Ensure smooth and organized customer flow at checkout lanes Keep payment counter clean and fully stocked Restock receipt paper, bags, and checkout supplies Report pricing or system issues to supervisors promptly Store Support Duties Assist with bagging groceries when needed Follow safety, sanitation, and loss prevention policies Support opening and closing register procedures Maintain efficient front-end operations Team Collaboration Work closely with supervisors and store associates Support team members during peak shopping hours Help maintain smooth daily store operations Skills & Qualifications Strong customer service and communication skills Basic math and accurate cash-handling ability Attention to detail and transaction accuracy Ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment Dependable and team-oriented Previous cashier experience is a plus but not required Work Environment Busy grocery store or supermarket front end Frequent customer interaction Standing for long periods Flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays Performance Expectations Fast and accurate payment processing Friendly and professional customer service Proper cash handling and register accuracy Clean and organized checkout area High customer satisfaction and teamwork
