As the largest independently owned and operated engine remanufacturer in North America, our family-owned company is driven by a passion for excellence and a commitment to getting our customers back on the road quickly. We are looking for a Team Lead in Brooklyn Center, MN. The Materials Team Lead is a tactical, floor-based leadership role focused on supporting daily production output and quality in our gas engine remanufacturing facility. This hands-on position is responsible for managing all material flow — from shipping and receiving through kitting — to ensure production lines and support labor have the right components at the right time. The Materials Lead plays a critical role in inventory accuracy, supplier coordination, and keeping assembly operations running smoothly.
Daily Planning:
Set the daily build schedule, lead morning Production Meetings, and update Gemba Board metrics to communicate performance expectations.
Throughput Optimization:
Monitor floor throughput and adjust labor allocation to sustain a "pull system" and ensure daily schedule attainment.
Problem Solving:
Act as the primary floor contact for production issues, implementing real-time corrective actions to minimize disruptions.
Logistics Oversight:
Manage all shipping and receiving functions, including physical loading/unloading and the accurate processing of inbound/outbound freight paperwork.
Kitting Leadership:
Lead kitting activities for engine assembly, ensuring precise component transactions and staging to meet production demands.
Core Management:
Oversee the preparation, documentation, and return of cores and long blocks, communicating directly with suppliers to resolve discrepancies. counts, and collaborate with Purchasing to ensure 100% inventory accuracy.
BOM Maintenance:
Update Bills of Materials (BOMs) to reflect current engine configurations and perform Sales VIN lookups as required.
Proactive Monitoring:
Monitor stock levels and proactively notify the Production Lead and Management of potential shortages or availability concerns.
Staff Leadership:
Lead hiring, training, and performance reviews to build a flexible, high-performing team.
Safety First:
Enforce safe work practices and company policies, ensuring safety remains the #1 priority at all times.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Coordinate with Engineering, Dyno, and Warranty departments to manage turnaround times and document issues in the Production Fail Log.
Qualifications Experience :
3+ years in materials handling, shipping/receiving, or production support required. Previous leadership experience preferred. Experience in automotive or heavy equipment remanufacturing preferred.
Technical Skills :
Proficiency with ERP systems, inventory control methods (cycle counting, kitting), and BOM management.
Equipment :
Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (Certification preferred).
Leadership :
Proven ability to lead teams, manage labor allocation, and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Physical/Environment :
Ability to work on a fast-paced production floor while maintaining high focus on daily output and quality goals; must be able to stand for long periods and navigate a manufacturing setting safely including lifting up to 75lbs. PPE is always required on the manufacturing floor.
