Job Description

Job Summary Join our dynamic team as a Hatchery Early Rearing Broodstock Associate, where you will play a vital role in the development and maintenance of healthy broodstock populations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced aquaculture environment, focusing on early rearing stages that are essential for producing high-quality fish. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal animal care, maintaining sanitation standards, and supporting breeding programs to promote genetic diversity and overall stock health. This role bridges early rearing activities (egg to -25g) with broodstock support and coordination, while maintaining high standards for biosecurity, sanitation, and fish welfare. Your dedication will directly contribute to sustainable fish production and the success of our aquaculture operations. Duties Hatchery & Early Rearing Operations Receive, handle, and properly allocate eggs into incubation systems Monitor egg and fry development and pond fish at the appropriate stage Remove, count, and record daily mortality Maintain hatchery cleanliness, sanitation, and organization Prepare and maintain ponds, equipment, and materials for production schedules Operate fish pumps, counters, and other hatchery equipment safely Broodstock Support & Production Coordination Assist in executing broodstock rearing plans aligned with production goals Support feeding programs, inventory tracking, and feed usage forecasting Maintain accurate stock records and environmental data in FishTalk Coordinate with team members to ensure SOP compliance and efficiency Assist leadership with daily priorities and production planning Data, Reporting & Compliance Maintain accurate daily records (mortality, feed, fish movements, treatments, environmental parameters) Ensure timely entry of data into FishTalk systems Report operational issues, variances, or concerns to site leadership immediately Follow all company SOPs, biosecurity protocols, and environmental compliance standards Fish Health, Welfare & Environment Maintain fish health standards and welfare expectations Monitor and maintain oxygen levels and environmental parameters Support biosecurity measures, including disinfectant stations and sanitation procedures Ensure mortality, grading, and feeding targets are met according to production benchmarks Sanitation & Facility Maintenance Clean and maintain hatchery systems, ponds, and workspaces Follow strict sanitation and safety protocols Maintain equipment in proper working condition Team Support & Workplace Expectations Provide direction and support to team members on daily tasks Communicate effectively with site leadership (Farm Manager, Site Lead, Facilities Manager) Maintain professionalism, teamwork, and a strong work ethic Participate in safety training and operational improvement initiatives
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
1+ year of aquaculture, hatchery, or fish rearing experience preferred Educational background in aquaculture, fisheries science, biology, animal science, agriculture, or a related field strongly preferred Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs with precision Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions Strong organizational, problem-solving, and recordkeeping skills Ability to perform physical work (lifting, moving equipment, working around water systems). Pay:
