Job Description
About this position and you The Technical Sales Associate supports the company's environmental water and wastewater treatment business by providing technical sales, system evaluations, and treatment program recommendations. The role focuses on chemical and polymer treatment solutions for industrial, agricultural, and municipal wastewater applications, with an emphasis on food and meat processing facilities. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Wastewater Technology, or related technical field required (or equivalent industry experience).
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial wastewater treatment, chemical treatment programs, environmental services, or related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience with industrial wastewater equipment (DAF systems, clarifiers, presses).
- Proven ability to calculate chemical dosages and apply treatment chemistry principles.
- Experience in technical sales or customer-facing industrial roles preferred.
- Willingness to travel across multi-state territories. Responsibilities Customer Development & Account Management
- Develop, manage, and grow relationships with agricultural and food-processing customers, including meat processors, as well as other industries and municipalities.
- Assess customer challenges and recommend appropriate chemical and polymer treatment programs for pre-treatment prior to municipal discharge and full discharge treatment systems.
- Conduct on-site evaluations of wastewater treatment systems and processes.
- Collaborate with customers, municipal authorities, and internal technical teams to ensure compliant and effective treatment solutions.
- Prepare and present technical proposals, treatment recommendations, and cost justifications.
- Support implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of treatment programs.
- Maintain accurate sales records, forecasts, and activity reports.
- Stay current on environmental regulations, wastewater treatment technologies, and industry best practices. Technical knowledge & Application Wastewater & Process Equipment
- Apply working knowledge of industrial wastewater treatment systems and how chemical programs integrate with equipment such as: o Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) systems o Screw presses o Clarifiers o Belt presses Chemical & Mathematical Competency
- Calculate and apply chemical treatment dosages, including: o Parts per million (PPM) o Grams per liter (g/L) o Solution concentrations and dilution calculations
- Demonstrate basic understanding of chemical and polymer handling, application, and safety. Electrical & Controls Knowledge
- Apply basic knowledge of industrial electronics and instrumentation, including: o Low-voltage systems (e.g., 24 VDC) o 4-20 mA inputs and outputs
- Communicate effectively with maintenance and operations personnel regarding control signals and equipment interfaces. Process Piping
- Demonstrate basic understanding of process piping systems, including flow paths, injection points, and common piping components used in wastewater treatment applications. Communication & Sales Effectiveness
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build trust with customers, identify operational needs, and provide practical, value-driven solutions.
- Work independently while coordinating effectively with internal technical and sales teams. Physical Demands / Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee is required to climb stairs/ladders (including vertical) and access elevated equipment.
- Employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to see and hear sufficiently to safely navigate industrial environments, read instrumentation and gauges.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements such as operating testing equipment, handling sample containers, using tools, and working with chemical feed systems.
- Must be "fit for duty". Work Environment Must be able to perform under the following conditions:
- Work in awkward or confining workspaces.
- Work in elevated places.
- Work in outdoor environment.
- Work in noisy environment.
- Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals and etc.
- Safety is a job requirement.
- Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.
- Required use of PPE.
- Estimated 85%-90% travel, primarily regional, with occasional overnight stays.
- Work performed in manufacturing facilities, wastewater treatment plants, and field locations.
