Professional Hourly Job Description:

The Community Practice on a daily basis will have appointments for preventative care and other problems with client pets, including vaccinations, annual physical exams, elective surgery, and behavior appointments for dogs and cat. Community Practice technicians contribute to patient assessment and handling, client communication, and provide support for a variety of general procedures and laboratory analysis of samples. Technicians provide support to the service and teaching mission of the hospital in collaboration with faculty and veterinary students. Associate Clinical Specialist 1: 60%Assist with physical exams and obtaining diagnostic/laboratory samples (including venipuncture). Assist with proper animal care and restraint aligning with Fear Free protocols. Perform client communications, including emails, phone calls, and medical records. 20% Assist with analyzing fecals, heartworm tests, urinalyses, and other diagnostics using in-house laboratory equipment. Assist with general anesthesia (including induction and maintenance of anesthesia) for surgical procedures. Follow policy and procedures of proper handling of controlled substances, including proper disposal. 10% Assist with ordering and maintaining inventory for department, including hospital food room. Clean and sanitize exam rooms and treatment room area as needed. 10% Participate with blood bank and on-call, holiday, and emergency shifts in Small Animal ICU and ER. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree; OR associate's degree in veterinary technology OR credentials as a vet tech or equivalent OR 3 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

Fear Free Certified Associate Clinical Specialist 2: 60%Perform and teach physical exams and obtaining diagnostic/laboratory samples (including venipuncture). Teach proper animal care and restraint aligning with Fear Free protocols. Perform client communications, including emails, phone calls, and medical records. 20% Perform and teach analyzing fecals, heartworm tests, urinalyses, and other diagnostics using in-house laboratory equipment. Special and Physical Requirements:

Required to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts. Per PS 18

• This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel
• these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.

Required to be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), sitting, bending, climbing, crawling, pushing/pulling, grasping, squatting, and/or twisting.
