Job Description

Under some supervision, plans, analyzes, simulates, designs, and develops engineering solutions Performs or supervises the performance of engineering tests and assist in the documentation and evaluation of results Assist in typical laboratory management activities including equipment management, chemical inventory management, supply ordering, and personnel management Trains, coordinates, and supervises small sub-teams of engineers and/or research technicians & associates Assist in preparing and writing technical reports, peer-reviewed conference and journal publications; and, presents results at local and national engineering, scientific and medical meetings Experience in the design and fabrication of medical devices, mechanics of materials, biomaterials, blood-material interactions, 3D printing, computer aided design, and in vitro and in vivo evaluation of artificial lung technologies. Experience in testing extracorporeal life support systems or related technologies in large animal models Knowledge and ability to apply the principles, theories, concepts and practices of the engineering profession and ability to keep abreast of changes in technology and utilize the most current information to engineer solutions to technical problems. Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and trends. Skill to effectively communicate highly technical information both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals including non-technical system users, clinicians and therapists. Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply relevant codes, regulations, guidelines and standards associated with development, testing, documentation and deployment of medical technology. Typically requires an Associate's degree or equivalent technical training, supplemented with continuing education network/telecom courses/technical seminars and less than two years experience as a project engineer. Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
