This is a senior-level technical role requiring a blend of precision craftsmanship, analytical thinking, and a deep understanding of medical device materials and processes. You will work closely with R D Engineers to build prototypes, develop manufacturing processes, and execute critical testing protocols.
Key Responsibilities Advanced Prototyping:
Build complex, high-precision medical device prototypes (e.g., catheters, delivery systems, etc.) using specialized equipment like laser welders, braiders, and thermal bonders.
Process Development:
Assist engineers in developing, documenting, and refining manufacturing processes; provide feedback on "Design for Manufacturability" (DFM).
Testing & Validation:
Execute benchtop testing, tensile testing, and simulated use testing. Collect, analyze, and document data.
Technical Documentation:
Author and update Work Instructions (WIs), Lab Notebooks, and Test Reports.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve technical issues during the build process, suggesting design or process improvements.
Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma required; Associate Degree in a technical field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering Technology) is highly preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in the medical device industry, specifically in an R D environment preferred.
Technical Skills:
Expertise in catheter assembly (tipping, bonding, braiding, reflow). Proficiency with measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, vision systems). Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail, a proactive problem-solving mindset, and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to the engineering team.
Compliance:
Familiarity with
ISO 13485
