    Sanitation Technician
  • Job Description
  • The Sanitation Technician works independently throughout the plant to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant production environment. This role focuses on industrial cleaning, sanitation, and housekeeping across mill structures, packing buildings, silos, and production areas, using chemicals, equipment, and protective gear in accordance with safety and food manufacturing standards.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Complete a daily rotation checklist of cleaning tasks across the entire plant.
+ Vacuum inside mill structures and packing buildings to remove dust and debris. + Dust pipes, remove cobwebs, and clean hard-to-reach areas in production and support spaces. + Clean and sanitize major and minor spills during production as needed to maintain a safe work area. + Wash flour silos from top to bottom, both inside and outside where required. + Clean and sweep sifters, mill towers, packing towers, and related structures. + Check magnets in the scale area and ensure they remain free of buildup and contamination. + Clean, sweep, and wash flour accumulation on stairways, balconies, and around flour silos. + Sweep and clean spilled corn from outside corn silos and around the mill structure. + Wash out gutters, building structures, and roofs throughout the plant. + Wash production towers and other elevated structures as needed. + Pick up trash, pallets, cans, cardboard, and other debris throughout the plant. + Set up sanitation equipment and tools for any cleaning task that may arise. + Assist in taping and sealing warehouse areas, packing areas, boxcars, and hopper cars. + Assist in fogging and releasing fumigants and/or insecticides in warehouses, packing areas, mills, hopper cars, boxcars, and flour silos, following safety procedures. + Apply sanitizers and other cleaning agents in production areas according to established protocols. + Clean and sanitize interior drains by rinsing, scrubbing, and flushing with sanitizer. + Perform detailed cleaning of interior production areas, including dusting, sweeping, pressure washing, and vacuuming. + Assist the mill team with cleaning production equipment during shutdowns, sanitizing activities, and scheduled cleaning procedures. + Use and handle chemicals and cleaning equipment safely, including proper use of PPE, understanding Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and following storage, transport, and handling guidelines. + Practice good Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including hygiene, housekeeping, and prevention of cross-contamination. + Carry out miscellaneous sanitation and general labor duties related to the role as assigned. + Maintain consistent and reliable attendance, recognizing that presence on shift is an essential function of the position.
  • Essential Skills
  • + Ability to follow simple written instructions accurately and consistently.
+ Ability to read, write, and speak English to understand procedures, safety information, and documentation. + Reliable transportation to and from work to support consistent attendance. + Ability to work at elevated heights, including up to approximately 80-foot silos. + Capability to perform physical cleaning tasks for long periods of time, including lifting, pushing, and carrying cleaning equipment and products. + Ability to stand on feet for the entirety of a 12-hour shift when required. + Ability to frequently walk, climb ladders, and use stairs throughout the facility. + Ability to push a cart full of cleaning equipment and products safely. + Commitment to good housekeeping, sanitation, and janitorial standards in a manufacturing environment. + Willingness to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, windy, and dusty conditions as part of daily duties. + Ability to work occasional overtime and occasional Saturday shifts as needed. + High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Prior industrial cleaning or housekeeping experience in a manufacturing or food production environment is preferred.
+ Previous experience in food manufacturing, food production, or a sanitation role is a plus. + Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety expectations is beneficial. + Experience with janitorial duties such as sweeping, vacuuming, and pressure washing is helpful. + Comfort working as part of a team-oriented department with a collaborative, supportive culture. + Motivated, positive attitude and willingness to learn and take on new tasks. + Strong teamwork skills and ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.

  • Work Environment
  • This role is based in a food manufacturing and milling environment with exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
The facility includes mill structures, packing buildings, silos, production towers, stairways, balconies, roofs, and warehouse areas, and the work frequently involves elevated heights up to approximately 80 feet. The environment can be dusty due to flour, and employees may encounter constant or intermittent noise levels that require hearing protection. The position follows a day shift schedule of approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with opportunities for overtime and occasional Saturday work of about 3-5 hours, roughly once per month. Cell phones are not allowed on the production floor and must be stored in a locker or vehicle. The required attire includes a provided hard hat, clean jeans or work pants, and a t-shirt without sleeves, holes, tears, rips, or any offensive graphics, along with steel-toe boots and a belt. Clothing must be free of buttons or anything that could damage product. Personal protective equipment is used as needed for chemical handling, noise, and other safety requirements, and the overall environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to GMP and sanitation standards.

  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $23.15 - $23.15/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
