Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Saw Band Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining band saw machines to accurately cut bar, tube, sheet, or structural stock materials according to blueprints and cutting lists.
Machine Operation:
Set up, adjust, and operate band saw machinery to cut bar, tube, sheet, or structural stock materials according to blueprints and cutting lists
Quality Assurance:
Inspect cut materials to ensure they meet required dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
Maintenance:
Perform daily and routine preventative maintenance. This includes cleaning the machine, lubricating moving parts, and replacing dull or broken blades. •
Material Handling:
Load and unload raw materials and finished parts safely using manual labor or heavy equipment like forklifts or overhead cranes. •
Inventory & Record Keeping:
Accurately complete production records, document time spent on jobs, and assist with raw material inventory. •
Fixture Operation:
Load and unload raw blanks into dovetail vises and self-centering workholding fixtures. •
Quality Control:
Inspect physical dimensions, angles, and surface finishes using calipers, micrometers, and optical comparators. •
Tooling Maintenance:
Select appropriate endmills and dovetail form cutters; measure, set tool offsets, and replace worn tooling to maintain tolerances. Responsibilities Set up and operate band saw machines, ensuring proper blade tension, alignment, and safety guards are in place before starting each shift. Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or work orders to determine cutting requirements. Use hand tools, calipers, and other measuring devices to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy of cuts. Adjust machine settings or program CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines for complex or repetitive cuts as needed. Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols at all times. Perform routine maintenance on saw equipment, including blade replacement and lubrication. Collaborate with team members in manufacturing, carpentry, or woodworking departments to meet production deadlines efficiently. Experience Prior experience operating band saws or similar machining equipment within a manufacturing or woodworking environment is highly preferred. Familiarity with CNC programming and operation is advantageous for handling complex cutting tasks. Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, calipers, and other measuring instruments is essential for quality control. Demonstrated ability to follow safety guidelines diligently while working with heavy machinery and raw materials.
