Position Title School Counselor, (1 year leave) Required Application Type Teacher / Admin Salary/Pay Scale First 30 days at substitute rate Job Description School Counselor. Long Term Substitute, at the High School. Effective 6/1/26 - 6/30/27 (approx), including 20 summer days.
Qualifications:
NYS certification.
Salary:
First 30 days at substitute rate ($144 per day certified), after 30 consecutive days: minimum salary $52,255 prorated, actual salary based on education. We encourage you to visit queensburyschool.org for more information about our district. Job Qualifications NYS certification required
General Job Description:
A school counselor helps students with academic, personal, and social development, often acting as a bridge between students, teachers, and parents. They provide guidance and support to help students succeed in school and beyond, including career and college planning. Key responsibilities include individual and group counseling, conflict resolution, academic advising, and crisis intervention.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Support:
Assisting students with course selection, academic planning, and understanding school policies and procedures.
Social and Emotional Development:
Providing guidance and counseling to help students manage emotions, develop social skills, and build positive relationships.
Career and College Planning:
Helping students explore career options, plan for college or vocational training, and navigate the application process.
Conflict Resolution:
Mediating disputes between students, or between students and teachers, and helping to foster a positive school environment.
Crisis Intervention:
Responding to and managing crises, providing support to students in distress, and connecting them with appropriate resources.
Collaboration:
Working closely with teachers, parents, administrators, and other school staff to support student success.
Assessment and Evaluation:
Utilizing assessments to understand student strengths, weaknesses, and interests, and using this information to guide their development.
