Job Description

This position is effective with the 2026-2027 school year. School Counselor - The Girard School District is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and collaborative Middle School Counselor to join our dynamic team in supporting students in grades 5-8. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This position will serve as an additional K-12 School Counselor at Rice Avenue Middle School, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. While experience working with middle school-aged students is preferred, candidates with at least three (3) years of successful school counseling experience will be considered. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential. Candidates must hold a valid Pennsylvania School Counselor PK-12 Certification or an equivalent credential.
Please note:
Assignments may be in any district building and are subject to change based on district needs. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, social-emotional, and personal development.
  • Develop and deliver classroom guidance lessons on topics such as conflict resolution, career exploration, decision-making, and mental health awareness.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to create strategies that promote student success and well-being.
  • Respond to student crises and provide short-term interventions or referrals to external resources as needed.
  • Support a positive school climate by leading or assisting in school-wide initiatives (e.g., anti-bullying campaigns, wellness programs, peer mentoring).
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Participate actively in school teams, including MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) and IEP/504 meetings when necessary.
  • Advocate for equity and access to academic and social opportunities for all students.
