Qualifications:
1. LPN with minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing, or pediatric nursing. 2. Certified in CPR/First Aid or BLS Reports to: Principal & Director of Health and Wellness
Job Goal:
Provide preventive health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identifies problems and disabilities and provides such services as case finding, health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems which would later be more difficult and costly to address. Supports the education process by working to assure the health of all students.
Knowledge of:
1. Principles and practices underlying professional nursing 2. Principles and practices underlying the field of school health. 3. Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health. 4. Organization and administration of other cooperating agencies. 5. State and local laws relating to health and social issues. 6. Rules and regulations regarding being and EPSDT provider in the state of MS Ability to: 1. Participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing. 2. Exercise professional judgment in making decisions. 3. Communicate appropriately and effectively with students, parents, administrators, other school personnel, etc. 4. Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs. 5. Organize and manage time. 6. Use a computer and various software applications.
Job Description:
1. Promotes and protects the optimal health status of school-age children 2. Provides health assessments, including obtaining a health history, screen and evaluate findings of deficit in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc. 3. Develops and implements a student health plan on students with identified health issues. 4. Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students. 5. Plans and implements school health management protocols. 6. Participates in home visits to assess the family needs related to the child's health. 7. Works with other health care staff to determine procedures for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses. 8. Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases. 9. Provides health education and anticipatory guidance and serves as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction. 10. Acts as a resource person in promoting health careers. 11. Provide consultation in the formation of health and wellness policies, goals and objectives for the district. 12. Participate in
IEP / 504
plan and development when appropriate. 13. Maintain records on students referred for medical, dental or vision care 14. Maintain a daily log of all health-related activities. 15. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal, Title I Coordinator, or SPED Coordinator.
