6,245 Position Details Braidwood Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) Job Posting Position Summary The Braidwood Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of School Resource Officer (SRO). This position performs general and specialized law enforcement duties with a primary assignment supporting the Reed-Custer School District. The SRO plays a vital role in fostering a safe, secure, and positive learning environment while building strong relationships between law enforcement, students, and school staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain a visible presence within school buildings, grounds, and during arrival/dismissal times Respond to emergencies and investigate incidents occurring on school property Build positive relationships with students and serve as a role model Assist school administration with safety planning, drills, and threat assessment Provide training to staff on school safety, emergency response, and law enforcement roles Present educational programming (anti-drug, anti-gang, safety initiatives) Monitor for unauthorized individuals and maintain campus security Assist with investigations related to student misconduct when requested Prepare reports, maintain records, and testify in court as required Attend and assist with school-related functions, including athletic events Coordinate communication between the Police Department and School District Handle citizen inquiries and complaints professionally Assist with select athletic events Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism Ability to work effectively with youth, staff, and the public Pass background investigation
