Position Summary Reporting to the Director of Field Operations, the Field Supervisor is responsible for leading daily field investigations consisting of archaeological surveys, subsurface testing programs, and data recovery programs. Additionally, the Field Supervisor provides guidance on construction monitoring, archaeological test unit excavation, artifact identification, data collection, and supervision of archaeological field crews. Job Responsibilities
- Manage daily field operation activities
- Act as the field lead for archaeological surveys, testing (shovel test pits and test units), and data recovery programs
- Communicate regularly with field teams to provide support and proactively address issues.
- Communicate regularly with Senior Archaeologists and Principal Investigators before, during, and after field assignments to ensure understanding of project requirements, expectations, and prompt reporting of field results and schedules.
- Responsible for review of all field notes before submittal to the project archaeologist.
- Interface with on-site client and Native American representatives.
- Resolve field-related issues promptly, in accordance with established policies and procedures, to minimize disruptions.
- Ensure all field activities comply with the company's safety policies and safety standards.
- Facilitate field training and development programs for new hires in various processes and procedures.
- Manage expenses relating to field gear, travel, equipment, etc.
- Responsible for staff morale, performance, engagement and retention.
- Responsible for incident reporting such as safety, trespass, Xstreme MD, and following all other Company required safety procedures.
- Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Field Supervisor or a related role.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and current auto insurance with state required minimum coverage.
- Proven experience working in a fast, paced, high pressure environment with competing priorities and deadlines. Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of an archaeological field school
- 5 years of experience as a Field Supervisor or similar role in southern California
- Experience with both historic and prehistoric deposit discovery and recordation, bedrock milling feature identification and recordation, shovel test pit investigations, and data recovery excavations.

This could involve driving or using other forms of transportation and may be requested with or without adequate advanced notice. Training Required Mandatory training assigned at the new hire stage. Additional training may be required from time to time for business needs. Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, especially for tasks such as archaeological survey, shovel test and test unit excavation. Ability to lift up to 30-50 pounds (e.g., field equipment, artifact buckets, groundstone artifacts) on occasion. Ability to reach overhead, stretch, or bend down to access areas artifacts or review archaeological deposits.
Pay:
$38.00 - $42.00 per hour
