Job Description

Job Description:
The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor beginning in September 2026, pending final budget approval. This is a nine-month non-tenure track position. The position is for instruction in our General Chemistry Lecture, General Chemistry Laboratory, and Organic Chemistry Laboratory curriculum for science majors, pre-medical students, engineering students, and other interested students. In addition, the position may also include teaching General Chemistry for Health Science for students in the Associate's degree program at Fairfield's Bellarmine campus. The teaching load is four courses (either lecture or lab) each semester. The teaching will consist of one-two lecture sections and two-three laboratory sections.
Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have completed a M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry or an allied field, or should expect to receive their degree by summer 2026. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate education; highly competitive applicants will have experience teaching undergraduate lecture and laboratory, preferably in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry for Health Science. Candidates should have strong communication skills and a commitment to using technology to facilitate learning in the classroom and laboratory.
Additional Information:
The Department consists of eleven full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Department has high-quality NSF-funded instrumentation, including a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer and a
MALDI-TOF
mass spectrometer. Our Department offers ACS-accredited B.S. degrees in Chemistry and in Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, including departmental events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences.
