ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY SUMMARY
: The Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently searching for two part-time laboratory associates. The Laboratory Associate will conduct organic chemistry research and be involved in all aspects of the organic synthesis projects taking place in the laboratory. Specifically, the research associate will assist in activities including but not limited to: literature searching, reaction planning, execution of synthetic experiments, purification, spectroscopic data collection, and characterization of reaction products.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO
(this is just a small sampling of work variety): Perform all aspects of organic synthesis research. Search the chemical literature to identify experimental procedures. Plan and execute organic synthesis experimental procedures. Analyse reaction mixtures using thin layer chromatography and GC/MS. Purify reaction products using techniques such as extraction, recrystallization, and chromatography. Collect spectroscopic data including IR and NMR spectra on reaction mixtures and purified products. Maintain up-to-date laboratory notebooks and records. Compose reports, presentations, and posters. Ability to adhere to regular work schedule. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of one year of organic chemistry lecture and laboratory coursework.
PREFERRED
Some experience performing organic chemistry research.
