Biochemistry and Genetics Assistant Professor (CUSOM)

Full Time Position Summary:
This faculty member will bepart of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics at Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). Thisindividual is responsible for teaching biochemistry courses and other topics relative to expertise in the preclinical, integrated medicalschool curriculum and other CUSOM programs as needed, using traditional and innovative modes of delivery. Duties include participation incurriculum development and implementation; serving as an academic advisor; membership and participation on SOM and University committees;participation in the interview and selection process of SOM students; continued scholarly activity and participating in campus and communityservice activities. The position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics and to the Assistant Dean forBiomedical Affairs through the Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics.
Essential Duties andResponsibilities:
Commitment as assigned in team teaching biochemistry and other topics relative to expertise (andrelated responsibilities) to Osteopathic medical students and in other CUSOM programs as needed. Works in cooperation with theCurriculum Committee, Block Leaders, Course Directors and other faculty to develop the curriculum and syllabi for students of CUSOM,schedule courses, assign teaching, develop exam questions and other assessment tools, evaluate outcomes, and implement a continuous qualityassessment and improvement system for the curriculum. Serves as an academic advisor to assigned CUSOM students. Serves onand participates in CUSOM and University committees as assigned. Participates in the Admissions process of CUSOM students. Serves as a liaison between the students and CUSOM administration. Evaluates need-based items for successful curriculumdelivery pertaining to audio-visual aids, teaching materials and aids, faculty development materials and faculty travel, and any otherrelated resources and provides input for the annual budget for the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics. Develops andcoordinates programs and resources to assist and promote faculty growth, development, and accomplishments in the fields of education,research, and professional and clinical service. Develops and maintains scholarly efforts. Assures the advancement andintegration of high standards for ethical and professional behavior in all aspects of the education of the students of CUSOM and actions ofthe administration, faculty, and staff. Assures integration of osteopathic principles in pre- and post-doctoral educationprograms. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Demonstrates an active and consistent commitment tothe missions of both CUSOM and Campbell University. Uphold and abide by all Campbell University policies and procedures, including,but not limited to; Title IX and FERPA guidelines. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at anytime with or without notice.
Education/Experience:
An earned PhD or equivalent graduate degree inbiochemistry or similar discipline from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to candidates who havedemonstrated success or show strong potential in teaching, research, and service at an accredited medical school or college/university.
