Molecular Biology Technician Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Lansing, MI Job Details Full-time $25 - $30 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off 401(k) matching Qualifications Biochemistry Interpersonal skills Master's degree Bachelor's degree Attention to detail Full Job Description Position Overview This role focuses on genetic engineering, molecular cloning, and transgenic organism development to enhance silk fiber properties for commercial and biomedical applications. Key Responsibilities Conduct molecular biology techniques , including PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction, and plasmid cloning. Assist in the genetic modification of silkworms using CRISPR, transposon-based systems (e.g., piggyBac), and other gene-editing technologies. Perform gene expression analysis and contribute to the validation of transgenic strains. Maintain and analyze transgenic silkworm populations , including screening for genetic modifications. Collaborate with team members to optimize gene expression constructs for improved silk protein production. Maintain laboratory records and prepare reports summarizing experimental findings. Ensure compliance with biosafety and laboratory protocols for handling genetically modified organisms.
Qualifications Education :
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field.
Technical Skills :
Hands-on experience with PCR, cloning, DNA sequencing, and gene expression analysis.
Preferred Experience :
Familiarity with CRISPR, transgenic organism development, or insect genetics is a plus.
Analytical Skills :
Ability to interpret molecular data and troubleshoot experiments.
Communication :
Strong verbal and written communication skills for documenting research findings.
Detail-Oriented :
Precision in laboratory techniques and data management. Preferred Qualifications Experience with insect transgenesis or recombinant protein expression. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis and primer design. Knowledge of silk protein biochemistry and fiber characterization is a plus. Competitive Pay based on applicant qualifications; range between $25 - 30 /hr
