Silver Lake State Park is currently accepting applications for a Piping Plover Monitor.
Description:
Monitors are needed to protect endangered Piping Plover during the nesting season at Michigan State Parks. Duties include educating park visitors, protecting nest sites, daily monitoring of bird behavior, recording nesting site information, construction of nest enclosures and assisting piping plover researchers. •This is a minimum wage seasonal position and housing is not provided•
Timeframe:
Early May through late August 2026 (flexible start and end dates).
Time Required:
40 hours per week during the nesting season.
Position Requirements:
Excellent communication skills, friendly, positive attitude while engaging the public, commitment to endangered species conservation, ability to accurately collect data and record field notes, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team, ability to comfortably walk / hike long distances with difficult terrain in all weather conditions. No experience necessary, background in natural resources, wildlife management and / or wildlife biology is preferred.
