Yes County Jefferson Street Address Cape Vincent Research Station City Cape Vincent State NY Zip Code 13618 Duties Description This position is based in Cape Vincent, NY working on various fisheries projects in the Lake Ontario Research Unit. Duties will include but are not limited to assisting with data and sample collection and processing, data entry, preparing gear and equipment, inventory and ordering supplies, assisting with creel, gillnetting, trawling and habitat surveys, and supervising Fish and Wildlife Technician 1, interns, and volunteers. Technicians will also prepare aging structures and conduct age interpretation. The technician will often work on various creel surveys monitoring angler success/effort including the Lake Ontario Angler Survey (Fishing Boat and Tributary) and Eastern Basin Creel Survey. The survey designs are different, however, all generally require the technician to work some week days, weekend days and holidays (w/holiday pay rate) with AM or PM shifts. Technicians must effectively interact and communicate with the public, ask questions regarding their angling experience, and accurately record angler answers and biological data. Processing fish for length, weight, clip and biological samples is required. Must be able to safely trailer, operate, and work on board an 18'boat during the boat survey. Technicians are required to work some overtime (overtime pay rate) and in a variety of inclement weather conditions on both projects. Must work effectively both independently and as a team member. Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program.

Substitution:

one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described.

Experience with the operating, launching and trailering boats Experience using various fisheries sampling gear Experience identifying salmon and trout Experience maintaining equipment. Experience interacting with the public Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
