The Office of Academic Affiliations, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), is now accepting applications for a two-year (with an optional third year extension) Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Program at the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) at VA Palo Alto in Genomics. The Fellowship can commence immediately but applicants must be U.S. citizens. Our center focuses on post-deployment health concerns such as Chronic Multisymptom Illness (CMI), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), insomnia, and pain. In addition to a large GDA and EPIC data set we also have matching multi-modal brain imaging data for the same patients. The Fellowship site is part of the VA Palo Alto War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) and is affiliated with Stanford University. The fellowship provides a unique opportunity to relate genetics data to Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), Voxel-based morphometry (VBM), and clinical outcomes. In collaboration with their mentors, fellows will develop and conduct a research project, publish and present findings, participate in grant writing, and utilize the latest technologies for research. The ideal candidate will have:
A PhD in Statistical Genomics, Genetic Epidemiology, Medical Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics or a related quantitative discipline involving the interrogation of 'omics' datasets. Computational background with experience in programming of shell, R, Python, Perl or another programming language is required. Familiarity with analysis of genomics data and integration of information from publicly available data resources is a must. Additional experience with GenomeStudio 2.0 or comparable software highly desirable.
