Biological Monitor needed ASAP Spea Environmental Redding, CA Job Details Part-time $30 - $45 an hour 16 hours ago Qualifications Biology Environmental surveys Plant identification Writing skills Analysis skills Full Job Description Job Summary We are a group of biologists looking for somebody who can conduct environmental monitoring of construction projects this Fall. Our projects are almost entirely related to monitoring installation of underground fiber optic cable. The position requires someone with a degree or work experience in biological sciences or a similar field. The ideal candidate will have experience working in environmental consulting and is familiar with California's flora and fauna. Experience conducting monitoring in California is preferred, especially experience with California native plant identification and work with sensitive and listed fauna. Work will be primarily in northern California but could occur throughout the State. The position will require working in remote locations often away from home; thus, the candidate must be comfortable working away from home for weeks at a time. This position is almost entirely in the field; however, we anticipate having approximately 40 hours of work per week June - August (potentially longer). Work period, hours, and location will be dependent upon construction schedules. There will be additional opportunities to assist with reports and GIS mapping while not in the field. Office work will be remote from your home. Travel to and from work sites will be compensated and include a mileage reimbursements or a company vehicle. A personal vehicle is likely required; however, a company vehicle may be available. Mileage will be reimbursed and daily per diem will be provided while in the field. Hourly rate will depend upon experience. Example of duties Conduct pre-construction surveys to ensure permit requirements pertaining to wildlife, plants, and wetlands are being met. Identify native flora and fauna within work areas. Monitor ongoing construction to ensure project requirements are being met. Lead worker environmental training prior to construction work being initiated. Use GIS and ESRI Field Maps for mapping and data collection. Assist with writing reports, creating maps, and summarizing data. Skills Strong work ethic and ability to learn quickly. Ability to hike in remote locations. Experience with data collection methods and record keeping (written and using ESRI Software). Familiarity with GIS technology for spatial analysis and mapping. Strong communication skills (written and spoken) Strong plant and animal identification skills. Qualifications Experience conducting biological monitoring Proficiency in GIS and data collection methods Degree in biological sciences or related field Nest monitoring (preferred). Wetland delineation (preferred) Familiar with CEQA and NEPA (preferred) Past CDFW approved monitor and biologist (preferred) Ability to work independently in remote locations. Valid license Familiar working with Caltrans Familiar with stormwater monitoring (preferred)
