Job Description
SUMMARY Connecticut Children's, the only free-standing children's hospital in Connecticut, seeks a well-qualified Pediatric Geneticist or Biochemical Geneticist at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level to join our growing division. The successful candidate will join our team of two medical geneticists, three genetic counselors and a metabolic dietician. The division has busy clinical programs in pediatric genetics and neurogenetics along with a metabolic clinic. Connecticut Children's has robust education programs for medical students, pediatric residents and genetic counselor trainees at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, allowing ample opportunity for teaching and academic engagement. Clinical responsibilities will primarily involve outpatient care at the Children's Specialty Center in Farmington, CT as well as participating in coverage of consults in the inpatient setting including medical and surgical units, Level 1 Trauma Center, Level 3 and 4 NICU's PICU and the fetal care program. The Hospital is currently expanding to 250 beds with the opening of a new Fetal Tower and additional NICU beds. Connecticut Children's has a vibrant program of NIH-funded clinical and translational research with excellent opportunities for collaboration and career advancement. Opportunities for research collaboration with the nearby Jackson Laboratory are abundant including current endeavors related to rare disease diagnosis and the role of genome sequencing in newborn screening. Connecticut Children's is located in Hartford, Connecticut with outpatients seen primarily at a pediatric specialty site in nearby Farmington, Connecticut. Central Connecticut is a highly desirable place to live, located in between Boston and New York City and with close access to many outdoor activities including hiking, skiing and ocean beaches. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Thoroughly evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage each patient's condition appropriately.
- Identifies relevant medical issues accurately and use appropriate procedures and testing.
- Documenting assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record.
- Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff in meeting patient and family needs.
- Provide health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies.
- Participate in the management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients.
- Utilize quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
- Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.
- Participate in pediatric clinical research into the genetic basis of inherited disorders and scholarly activities to promote the health and development of children.
- Provide clinical teaching in genetics to a variety of learners, including medical students, residents and fellows.
- Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Participate in peer review and quality assurance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.
- Graduate from accredited school of medicine required
- MD or DO Degree required
- Board Eligible or Board Certified in Clinical Medical Genetics required
