Job Description

Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School Nature Careers, United States about 11 hours ago
Location:
Boston, MASSACHUSETTS
Job Type:
FullTime Postdoctoral Position - The Hong Laboratory, Division of Surgical Science, Department of Surgery, Harvard Medical School & Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center The Hong Laboratory at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in lymphatic vascular biology and translational neuroscience. Our laboratory is situated within the Division of Surgical Science, Department of Surgery, and benefits from a rich collaborative environment spanning basic science, surgery, and clinical medicine. Our research is focused on understanding the lymphatic vascular system - a critical and therapeutically underexplored component of human physiology. A central and rapidly growing area of the lab investigates the role of brain lymphatics in neurological health. Meningeal and nasal lymphatic vessels serve as the brain's primary drainage routes for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), removing metabolic waste and toxic proteins implicated in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. We are developing cutting-edge technologies - including focused ultrasound, pharmacological targeting of lymphatic mechanosensing pathways, and near-infrared imaging - to enhance CSF drainage and establish a new class of non-invasive, lymphatic-based therapies for brain disease. The laboratory offers exceptional training in a wide range of modern research platforms, including vessel-on-chip microfluidic systems, genetically engineered mouse and rat models, large animal translational models (ferret), single-cell transcriptomics, and advanced optical and ultrasound imaging. Postdoctoral fellows are mentored to develop independent research programs and are supported in pursuing fellowships, speaking at national conferences, and building the skills needed for successful independent academic careers. We seek highly motivated candidates with a PhD and/or MD, a strong record of research productivity, and a passion for discovery at the interface of vascular biology, neuroscience, and translational medicine. Experience in any of the following is valued but not required: vascular or lymphatic biology, in vivo imaging, microfluidics, animal surgery, or genomics. Harvard Medical School and BIDMC are located in the heart of Boston's biomedical research community, offering unparalleled access to collaborators, resources, and career opportunities.
