Description The lab of Jedediah Brodie is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for an NSF-funded project on the responses of tropical tree populations and communities to climate variation and species loss. The researcher will leverage >10 years of data from camera traps, tree phenology and demography monitoring, targeted field experiments to elucidate mammal-tree interactions, and a rare natural experiment to conduct analyses and lead the publication of at least two high-impact papers on how climate variation and the complete removal of a dominant consumer affect tree recruitment, species composition, and forest carbon storage. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities Analyze long-term ecological datasets using a variety of quantitative techniques, particularly population models Lead and publish 2-3 primary research papers Collaborate with an international team Contribute to graduate student mentorship The position will not involve field work Minimum Qualifications A PhD in ecology or a related field completed before the start date Strong quantitative skills, especially experience using R for population modeling (e.g., Bayesian approaches, integral projection models, or similar frameworks) Ability to work independently but interact with a team of supervisors and collaborators, including coordinating remote meetings with partners in multiple countries Remote work is possible but preference will be given to candidates willing to relocate to Missoula, Montana, and a modest relocation allowance will be provided Additional Information Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
