Job Description

Dr. Tara Bishop, Utah Valley University, is hiring undergraduate Student Research Assistants to support an applied environmental research project focused on pinyon-juniper woodland management. Students will assist with field-based ecological data collection, dendrochronology (tree aging), laboratory processing, and data management in southeastern Utah, with additional opportunities for science communication and outreach. This position provides hands-on experience in applied ecology, natural resource management, and collaborative research with land management agencies. under the supervision of Dr. Tara Bishop. Travel will be required and will include multi-day field campaigns with overnight camping. research and administrative support to the department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist with field data collection and documentation Collect tree measurements and environmental data following established protocols Prepare and maintain field equipment and supplies Process samples and assist with basic laboratory work Enter and verify data and assist with sample inventory Produce outreach and educational materials Outdoor fieldwork in remote settings Travel required; may include overnight field trips Physical activity required (hiking, lifting equipment, long field days) Must be a current UVU undergraduate student in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Natural Resources, Biology, or a related field Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Previous coursework or experience in ecology, field methods, or GIS Field Safety training Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to follow detailed instructions and work as part of a team
