Description •Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Type:
Temporary, Full-Time Duties and Responsibilities Assist the faculty and Chair with revisions to lab manuals Assist the faculty and Chair in writing TA training manuals Assist the summer session instructors in TA training and supervision Perform equipment setup and routine equipment maintenance in instructional labs to support essential teaching activities. Assist in the maintenance of critical instructional equipment including NMR, FTIR and UV-Visible Spectrometers and HPLC and FPLC systems. Coordinate disposal of unrepairable lab equipment and other e-waste. Assist with the collection and disposal of chemical waste from instructional labs. Work with department and EHSO staff to identify chemical and physical hazards, determine hazard-mitigating usage and disposal procedures, and carry out chemical waste collection and disposal. Minimum Qualifications Completion of college-level coursework in general, organic, and analytical chemistry lecture and laboratory courses with a B or better grade. Demonstrated ability to work independently with occasional direction from faculty, staff, or other designated supervisors. Excellent verbal communication skills. Desirable Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a closely related field with a minimum in-major GPA of 3.00 or better. Demonstrated ability to set up and use Mac and Windows computers and software. Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repair of electrical lab equipment. Completion of laboratory safety and biological safety courses, including hazardous waste generator training. Prior experience following chemical procedures and working with hazardous chemicals. Prior experience with disposal of hazardous chemical waste.
