The Chemistry Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting instructional and research operations by setting up, operating, testing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing laboratory equipment and associated computer systems. This position ensures that laboratory spaces are clean, functional, and properly prepared by maintaining work areas, managing supplies, and ensuring equipment readiness. The technician sets up and validates a wide range of laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and procedures in accordance with established protocols, institutional standards, and safety regulations. In this role, the Chemistry Laboratory Technician assists and instructs faculty and students on the safe and effective use, operation, and care of laboratory equipment, tools, and instructional technologies. The technician provides technical support for faculty and students engaged in instructional laboratories, research activities, capstone projects, and independent studies, helping to troubleshoot issues and ensure projects are conducted safely and efficiently. Additionally, the technician consults with faculty regarding equipment needs, modifications, or adaptations required for demonstrations or instructional purposes, and implements teaching aids and laboratory support materials to enhance the learning experience. Through these responsibilities, the Chemistry Laboratory Technician contributes to a safe, organized, and academically supportive laboratory environment. Qualified candidates will possess an associate degree or equivalent from an accredited two‑year college or technical school and a minimum of two years of relevant professional work experience. In lieu of the required education, candidates may qualify with three additional years of directly related experience. In addition to the above requirements, preferred candidates will have experience using and maintaining instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, NMR, IR, UV-vis spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Preferred candidates will also exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, a service mindset, and the ability to work independently. Pay range is $20.20/hour - $26.45/hour. Pay is competitive. A higher pay may be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
