Job Description
Responsible for the safe and effective collection, transportation, processing, and storage of residential household hazardous waste (HHW) for disposal or re-use in the designated facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. DUTIES Safely drive solid waste collection vehicles to assigned routes to and from the HHW facility through busy City of Denton streets and neighborhoods; must pay close attention to other vehicles, pedestrians, team members, parked vehicles, and overhead obstructions. Collect field HHW materials, and process and store appropriately; assist with other collection routes including, but not limited to, cart deliveries, bulky item collection, and valet collection services, as needed. Consolidate, pack, lab-pack, and log all household hazardous waste for disposal. Analyze and classify unknown chemicals using standard laboratory procedures; notify leadership immediately if unable to classify chemical prior to storage or disposal. Assist with stocking HHW material in the Re-Use facility, as appropriate. Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations including, but not limited to, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ), department and City of Denton; notify leadership immediately of any noncompliance. Perform daily Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspection and maintenance checks of all equipment; report any issues immediately to leadership. Assist customers in HHW and re-use facility and with service problems and concerns; report information obtained, and any resolution completed to leadership. Assist technicians in understanding the best and safest operation methods; notify leadership immediately of all unsafe behavior or actions. Perform Crew Leader job functions in the event of their absence.SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

High School diploma or equivalent; and, Three (3) years' experience processing HHW, hazardous waste, solid waste, recycling, or related field; and, Must have or obtain a valid 40-hourHAZWOPER
certification within six (6) months of employment; and, Must have or obtain a valid refrigerant recovery certification within six (6) months of employment, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required: Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, as well as City of Denton policies and procedures. Knowledge of maintenance and appropriate usage of tools and equipment, per to department/division. Skill at the beginner level, working with Microsoft Office 365, mobile devices, and other software systems to complete work. Skill in identifying problems and implement solutions. Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers. Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and in written forms, speak publicly, and listen intently to other points of view. Ability to work independently to manage multiple work tasks while balancing competing priorities with attention to detail and in a fast-paced environment. Ability to safety drive, back, and operate small-to-medium equipment on busy city streets and through neighborhoods. Ability to operate the onboard GPS unit and read a map to navigate the City of Denton. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and confidentiality. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing work environment to facilitate/accomplish needed activities. Ability to document all adjustments necessary and approved to complete the project. Ability to read, understand, and follow safety protocols and safe work procedures.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law). Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification. Must pass a physical examination. Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid 40-hourHAZWOPER
certification within six (6) months of employment. Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid refrigerant recovery certification within six (6) months of employment. Must pass equipment proficiency test(s) based on equipment-use requirement of the position. SAFETY Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, as appropriate and/or notify leadership immediately of needed repairs. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to leadership.WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Standard office equipment, pick-up truck, skid loader, forklift, Styrofoam densifier, Freon Recovery equipment, commercial baler, and other waste processing equipment; wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).Posture:
Prolonged balancing, standing, walking, and climbing; occasional sitting; frequent stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, climbing, and twisting.Motion:
Frequent repetitive hand motions.Lifting:
Lifting no more than 50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds.Environment:
Works inside the HHW and/or Re-Use facility and outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, no/low light, insects, poison oak/ivy, debris, odor, mold, chemicals, vibration, fumes, heights, potentially hazardous conditions, uneven ground, confined spaces, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.Travel:
Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.Attendance:
Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work outside normal business hours, as needed. Must be able to work overtime, holidays, staggered shifts based on business necessity and as needed.Mental Demands:
