Job Description

Job Function:
The Sample Generation Technician is responsible for completing duties for Sample Generation (SG). These duties include but are not limited to, calibration and operation of the smoking machine applicable to the area assigned, familiarization with project requirements and the correct set-up for smoking according to those details, recording of project data in worksheets and submission of any Out-of-Control Data. Some Technicians are required to complete duties of both Sample Preparation and Generation where required and trained in co-operation with their team. After smoking, the Technician is required to run QS programs and review data to identify possible errors and/or repeats, complete applicable documentation and assist Sample Preparation Technician when necessary. All Technicians are responsible for the cleanliness, organization and upkeep of the lab in order to maintain a good working environment. A SG Technician involved in the conduct of a GLP study must be knowledgeable in those parts of the Principles of GLP which are applicable to their involvement in the study. Technicians will have access to the study plan and appropriate SOPs applicable to their involvement in the study. It is the Technician s responsibility to comply with the instructions given in these documents. Any deviation from these instructions should be documented and communicated directly to the Study Director, and/or, if appropriate, the Principal Investigator(s). A SG Technician should exercise health precautions to minimize risk to her/himself and to ensure the integrity of the study. He/she should communicate to the appropriate person any relevant known health or medical condition in order that they can be excluded from operations that may affect the study. SG Technicians have the duty to follow Health and Safety responsibilities as outlined in the Safety Manual. A SG Technician is responsible for recording raw data promptly and accurately and in compliance with the Principles of GLP, and is responsible for the quality of the data.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with setting up and conducting standardized laboratory experiments, tests and basic analyses Machine setup, calibration, troubleshooting. Balance verification. Obtain cigarettes/E-Devices and Chain of Custody. Data sort, Count cigarettes according to Chain of Custody Generates samples following Standard Operator Procedures (SOP s) while maintaining Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and adherence to
ISO 17025
guidelines Conducts some limited analysis of test samples including: determination of carbon monoxide levels, pH and NOx levels Work with and handle various chemicals (in impingers) adhering to all WHMIS and safety requirements Compile records using our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Microsoft Office for analytical studies Maintain quality standards by adhering to our quality control program Cleaning and paperwork Daily Safety Inspections and stretches General maintenance and upkeep The employee shall implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform their duties in accordance to existing project specific requirements, current Test Methods, Study Plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Compliance to Health & Safety policies and procedures and wear required Personal Protective equipment at all times Other duties as assigned
Education:
Science related program and/or c ompleted training on industrial machines from previous employment, preferred
Experience:
Mechanical aptitude demonstrated by previous work experience (preference 1-2 years) Or as determined by Human Resources
